The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer is your normal, introverted teenage girl. She hangs out with her friends, has a boyfriend but doesn't go out on too many adventures. Then one day, she's forced by her best friend, her boyfriend and boyfriend's sister to go out to an abandoned asylum to see if its truly haunted. But once inside, something terrible happens which causes Mara to have extreme PTSD and their family moves down to Florida from New Hampshire. But things don't clear up in Florida, in fact, things get even more crazy.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is the first installment in a trilogy. The whole novel just keeps you on your seat. It has a creep factor to it and if you get grossed out easily, some parts you might have to skip over. If you watch American Horror Story, you would like this book from it's creep factor and how you think one thing is going to happen but then the complete opposite ends up happening. There are so many plot twists within this book and it just flows nicely believe it or not. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars or 91%.

The Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare

The Infernal Devices is a trilogy (3 books) created by Cassandra Clare. It follows this girl, Tessa Gray, who travels from New York to London in the year 1878 and gets sucked into the world of downworlders. She was originally invited to London by her brother, Nathaniel, once their Aunt Harriet passed away. When she arrives to London, she realizes that her brother isn't there and that neither of them are safe. She is immediately captured by downworlders. Downworlders are creatures that are part human and part demon, such as vampires, werewolves, fairies, warlocks. Tessa is forced to change herself in a physical manor that is not only painful for her but is necessary for Mortmain, her main captor.
Eventually, Tessa is saved from Mortmain, but only safe temporarily. From that point, Tessa learns about the downworlders counterparts, nephilim. Nephilim are also known as Shadowhunters, who kill demons and other rogue downworlders to keep the human, or mundane, world safe. In London, Tessa connects with the Shadowhunters who take care of her: Will, Jem, Charlotte, Henry and Jessamine. Here, Tessa learns how to defend herself but faces the ultimate question of can she defend the ones she love?

This trilogy starts off with Clockwork Angel, next Clockwork Prince and ending with Clockwork Princess. This is a fantasy novel with new creatures and new words but easy to fall in love with and imagine you are part of the world. You quickly fall in love with the characters and anticipate what they will do next. The first book is a little difficult to get into because of the writing style since the setting is in Victorian London but after the first couple of chapters, you can't get out of it. A book like this is very unique and it's one of those series where you can marathon the whole thing in a week but you take your time on the last book because you don't want it to be the end. Overall, I would give this series a 5/5 stars or a 94% rating.
